Savvy Dispatches is:
A digital photo album and a series of tips & stories to help you, the reader, have an unforgettable trip.
Who is behind Savvy Dispatches?
I'm Savannah and I'm originally from the beachcomber's paradise of Fort Myers in sunny Southwest Florida, USA. I've just returned stateside to a new city (Richmond, VA) after nearly two years living abroad on Working Holiday visas in New Zealand & Australia.
I created Savvy Dispatches in 2016 to focus on filling in the gaps of the niche that was my life: long-term travel on a budget. While my site often acts as a travel scrapbook or narrative, my real passion lies in creating guides that will allow the reader to make their trip last as long as possible without breaking the bank. I've always been an ultimate cheap-skate sort of traveler, tending to sleep in airports or train stations and hitch-hike when possible. I'm also a big fan of staying in backpacker's hostels and all of the social benefits of that living environment.
Other than budget travel, a few things that I'm passionate about are: trying new vegetarian food abroad, searching for seashells, reading nearly anything I can get my hands on, independent music, and wine tastings.
I've been to 22 countries in the last five years and I'm not planning on stopping any time soon. Why’s that? Well, I've been lucky enough to have some incredible experiences while traveling.. Like splurging on a New Zealand glacier heli-hike, or taking Australia's most iconic drive, or watching the glow of an active volcano in Vanuatu, or geeking out over tea plantations in Malaysia... Travel is often exhausting and (quite) unglamorous but every now and then you get to see something just so earth-shatteringly different from home that you can't believe it. After two years abroad, I'm not planning to do as many long-term trips as I used to but I'll still (hopefully) be taking many trips abroad. I'll keep going to continue to have magic moments and share them with you.
